RAT-HISTORY: WWI Lesbians

(As Albert Muskrat Jr. can't get his disability check, nor his job back at Laverdiere's, he has proposed a recurring column on major moments in world history from the perspective of the The Rat, a three-times failed East Dinksborough pharmacy clerk.)
The estimate of European dead in WWI is between 9% and 12% of the population.  That's close to 25% of the male population.  What a horrible stat.  Inconceivable.  While countless historians, including Wikipedia, explain the apocalyptic social impact the Great War had on Europe and Asia, none, (not even Wikipedia), have looked at the bright side.  UNTIL NOW.
25% of all dudes DEAD?  Surviving veterans suffering neurasthenia, (something like STSD)?  It seems Eurasia was low on working dicks.
Combine that with a million and a half ladies in the workforce for the first time.
I think you can do the math here.
Let the Rat set the scene: A Munitions Factory.  Two  lovely ladies having a cigarette while watching the sunset through the window at their work station.
"Beautiful, eh, Mabel?"
"Yes.  Beautiful.  Indeed.  It's just.."
"Yes, Mabel?"
"Not as beautiful as you, Clara."
"But Mabel --"
"-- Maybe we can go down to the pub, and have a drink, and, after, perhaps we could have a nice walk up Hronmir's Hill.  Sit under the apple tree.  I'll brush your hair.
(-- HOT!)
And later in the scenario:
"Clara?  Don't say you regret what we have done."
"Not regret, Mabel.  But confounded.  What I thought was a wrongful act done out of the desperate loneliness of our circumstance, was the rightest moment of my entire life.  You, you're beauty, the softness of your skin -- now I know what the boys have been fussing about all these years.  But.. can I ever go back to the old way?
(-- GODDAMN!!)
-- Thank you War, for the last hundred or so years worth of desperate lesbianism.
-- AMusk2 out.
(*The scene above was acted out in Al Muskrat's brain by Keira Knightley and and the late Paulette Goddard when she was young)
