ON: The Best 90's Movie

Take Private Ryan and shove it.
So too Titanic, GoodFellas, (I said it!), and Pulp Fiction.
The best movie of the 90's is a little something called Immortal Beloved.

One way to think about movies is to imagine the pitch:
PTCHR: It's Amadeus mixed with Citizen Kane, but with Beethoven!
MONEY: Beethoven?  I know the name.  But what is this Citizen Kane you speak of?

Only in the 90s could someone get funding for a period picture about solving the invented mystery of Beethoven's deathbed love.
MONEY: I love it.  Who are we thinking of?  Keanu Reeves?  Kevin Costner?
PTCHR: Oh, no.. Gary Oldman.

Gary Oldman.  Back then he was this:

Best ack-ack in da wo.
Anyway, someone wanted a love story/mystery with as much "class" (defined by the 90s = cast European actors) as one could have where Gary Oldman was involved, so they made a Beethoven movie starring
Isabella Rossellini
Valeria Golino
And that shithead who tricked Indiana Jones about Provasic in The Fugitive
-- What I'm saying is wholly shit, -- not holy shit, but Wholly Shit.
Because this movie should have been the turd comple.
Back at the imaginary pitch:
MONEY: Gary Oldman as Beethoven?  Who cares?
PTCHR: Understand, the climax of the film will be the Ode To Joy.
MONEY: Who's that?

The 90s, as hot/cold as you can take the movies, you can't take this away:
A Beethoven movie starring Gary Oldman got made.
...
And also there was this:

Like in risk v reward, baby.  But screw.  That trailer shows why it's taken this long for people to realize that Heat is the second greatest movie of the 90s.  DeNiro and, as my brother calls Pacino, "The Pissant", were advertised so hotly that the movie got lost in the faceoff.  The movie: Val Kilmer, The Prez from 24, Sizemore, Trejo, Wayne-Gro, Nat Portman, the City, the action scenes, Ashley Judd's GREAT ASS, all of it.. lost in the mud of two overrated wop-wops.
But I digress:

Is Immortal Beloved a good movie?  Not really.  Is it a great movie?  Absolutely.
Listen world: Question my politics, question my sanity, but never question me on Gary Oldman movies.
Ever since I were 13 years old I been saying Gary Oldman is the GOAT.
Still is.

And Immortal Beloved, a great acting job, nearly forgotten..

Being a genius isn't what it's cracked up to be.
...
MOVIE FUN FACT:
For you who read this blog day after day, here's your bit:
Twice in American movies that I can think of did racist scripts involve a black pimp character dying at the hands of a white antihero, where both productions cast a white actor for the role of the pimp.  One is a few clips above.  Before Tony Scott jumped off a bridge he directed many movies not as good as his brother Ridley.  One that was nearly as good as Ridley was True Romance.  The above clip shows Gary Oldman playing said pimp.
The question is did Tony Scott recreate the miscasting of the finest American movie of the 1970s, or did Tarantino mean for the miscasting as an homage?  As Oldman plays a black pimp who dies at Christian Slater's hands in True Romance, so does Harvey Keitel in Taxi Driver.  DeNiro does him.  DeNiro.
There is this bit I did this month where I claim Game of Thrones starts off where Lord of the Rings leaves off, and here we have True Romance taking off with Tarantino sending Travis Bickle to Hollywood after killing a young blonde prostitute's white (but really black) pimp.  Even putting the character in Bickle's famous M65 field jacket.  This crap being in my head is why I stopped watching movies and started playing video games.  Clarence Worley/Travis Bickle.
